Scientific Peer Review Internship Program
for Healthcare Students and Early Career Professionals

Program Overview:
The Scientific Peer Review Internship Program, hosted by the Annals of Student Research in Health Sciences (asrhealth.org), is a 12-month training program designed to immerse healthcare students and early-career professionals in the peer-review process for manuscripts under consideration for publication in a scholarly journal. This program equips participants with essential skills to critically evaluate research, offering practical, hands-on experience that bridges academic learning and professional practice in scientific publishing.

Program Objectives:
• Master the peer-review process: Through hands-on experience and mentorship, interns will gain a comprehensive understanding of the peer-review process and the reviewer’s role in maintaining research quality and integrity.
• Develop critical analysis skills: Interns will learn to critically appraise research methods, data presentation, and ethical considerations in scientific studies and develop constructive review writing skills.
• Collaborate on group assignments: Interns will engage in collaborative group reviews to foster teamwork and broaden perspectives.
• Prepare for a career in academic publishing: Successful interns will build a foundation for ongoing contributions to scientific journals as an independent peer reviewer.

Deadline:
• Applications will be accepted from January 1 to June 1 each year.
• Decision letters will be sent by July 1.

Eligibility Requirements:
• Currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate studies or within 5 years of graduation.
• Involvement in health sciences research, including medical, nursing, pharmacy, public health, and allied health students.

• Resume or CV
• Brief letter of interest (250–500 words), outlining the applicant’s background and motivation for joining the program.
• Optional: Samples of previous academic work or relevant experience; letters of recommendation.
